Our history

Imperial Lighting Maintenance Company was founded in 1973 by Leon and Cary Mendelsohn (father and son) who remain as owners of the closely-held family business. They were joined in the business by grandsons/sons Scott Mendelsohn in 2002 and Todd Mendelsohn in 2009, to form 3 generations presently active. Imperial started with 5 employees and has grown since then to approximately 45 full-time workers. For the past 35 years, Imperial has been the largest independently-owned lighting maintenance company in Chicago. Along with our long-time presence in Chicago, we pride ourselves on the longevity of our personnel; our executive management team has a combined 150 years of experience within the lighting maintenance industry. Our team of crew supervisors and project managers has an average of 20 years of experience with Imperial Lighting. The average length of service with the organization for our lighting technicians is over 15 years. What this means is that our clients receive experienced, professional service in a timely manner. Our team knows what it takes to satisfy our customers – both from a technical point of view drawing upon our collective experience, as well as from a relationship point of view, giving each customer personalized service from a locally-owned team.
