In 2018, a project team from Imperial Lighting performed a full LED fixture replacement in a municipal parking structure for a Chicago-area suburb.

To eliminate increased maintenance costs and safety concerns due to light outages, we replaced 175 watt Metal Halide fixtures with 50 watt LED parking garage luminaires. Since this was a municipal parking garage, that meant the lighting was operating 24 hours per day.

The team at Imperial Lighting identified that the constant running of the lights was a pain point for the parking garage owner, leading to the LED upgrade resulting in large annual energy savings in addition to significant maintenance savings.

The customer also realized project savings due to a local government energy incentive program for which Imperial Lighting facilitated processing.

Since the garage lighting had to be operating 24/7 to comply with a village safety mandate but wasn’t fully occupied at all times, the Imperial Lighting project team also installed and programmed multi-level sensors on each fixture.

These lighting controls measure occupancy and ambient light and adjust the light levels accordingly on each fixture. This resulted in an additional 20% of energy savings.
