Imperial Lighting was founded in 1973 by Leon and Cary Mendelsohn. Now, fifty years later, Cary remains the owner of our closely-held family business, and the company has grown to become the largest independently-owned lighting service contractor in Chicago.
Throughout our history, and with our guiding light as a family-run lighting service company that puts our customers first, we have set the industry standard for dedication to customer service and quality work.
Our Mission
Imperial Lighting is committed to providing the highest quality of service in the lighting industry. Our mission is to help improve productivity and reduce energy costs through effective and efficient lighting management. We accomplish this by customizing solutions for each of our client’s unique business and lighting needs.
Our History
We have proudly been a family-owned and operated business since our inception. Leon Mendelsohn founded the forerunner of the company in 1955, and his son Cary joined him in 1973 to open Imperial Lighting Maintenance Company.
Beginning in 2002, the third generation joined Imperial Lighting and today, Scott Mendelsohn, Todd Mendelsohn, and Lisa (Mendelsohn) Orloff manage the company and are an integral part of its continuing growth and future business plans. From its humble foundation with 5 employees, Imperial Lighting has since grown to over 30 full-time personnel.
Management and Service Expertise
At Imperial Lighting we pride ourselves on the longevity of the tenure of our employees. Our leadership team has a combined 150 years of experience within the lighting industry. Additionally, our team of technicians and lighting contractors have an average of 25 years of experience with Imperial Lighting.
